  • Introducing Kelbourne Woolens Andorra

    February 16, 2018 2 min read 0 Comments

The arrival of a new yarn is always an exciting time and a celebration. Kelbourne Woolens have just launched their very first knitting yarn, Andorra to celebrate their ten year anniversary.

Kelbourne Woolens was set up in 2008 by Courtney Kelley and Kate Gagnon Osborn; two knitting friends with a shared experience in fine art, textiles, retail, and knitwear design. They are the US distributers for The Fibre Co. and have designed and published both knitting and crochet patterns as well as creating tutorials to help crafters expand their knitting and crochet knowledge.

Andorra is a wonderfully versatile sport weight yarn. It's slightly finer than some sport weights that I'd knitted with before with a suggested gauge of 22 - 24 stitches so I feel you can use for many 4ply knitting patterns too if you play around with your needle size.

The blend of fibres that have gone into Andorra make this yarn a pure joy to knit with and wear. Merino and Highland wool, with just a touch of mohair to add luster, strength, and weightlessness. With a 2ply construction Andorra has a vintage vibe and this also comes across in the gorgerous colour palette.

60% Merino wool, 20% highland wool, 20% mohair
    2-ply
    169 metres (185 yards) / 50 gram skein
    23-25 sts = 10cm (4")
    3.25-3.5 mm (US 3-4) needle

Kelbourne Woolens have also put together a collection of knitting patterns to support Andorra. Cables, lace, and colourwork adorn sweaters and accessories in just the right ways. Designed to fit and flatter, these are pieces you will reach for time and time again.

Six knitting patterns make up the Andorra Collection. Each pattern is available to purchase individually on Ravelry.

Each pattern utilises a variety of skills to appeal to both the beginner and advanced knitter. You'll find handy links in each design to tutorials for the techniques that you might not have tried before which will help you complete your knitting project.
