Spring into Action with Pom Pom Quarterly

The promise of spring is just around the corner, the days are staying lighter for longer, and the garden is showing signs of new life. Another sign of spring for me is the arrival of the spring issue of Pom Pom Quarterly, out of all the issues of the magazine this one is always my favourite. Gone are all the bulky knits, away with the woolly Aran sweaters and say hello to DK cardigans, sportweight pullovers and lighter knits. 

Spring 2018 is the twenty-fourth issue of Pom Pom Quarterly and what a super issue it is. We've shortlisted a few of our favourite patterns with yarns you might want to knit them in.

Durumi by Isabell Kraemer

First up we have the beautiful sweater that made it to the front cover, Durumi by Isabell Kraemer. Durumi is a yoked sweater, worked seamlessly from the top down with short row shaping, then finished with a comfortably-sturdy collar. A classic sweater with a relaxed fit, just perfect for the weekends. The sample was knit in Daruma Genmou.

Vaffel by Kari-Helene Rane

Vaffel is worked in one piece from the front hem through to the back hem. The side seams are then hemmed using mattress stitch. The designer Kari-Helene Rane has used a lightweight waffle pattern on the top part of the pullover and edged the drop sleeves with a cable trim. We'd love to see it knitted up in The Fibre Co. Canopy Fingering.

 Vita de Vie by Amy Christoffers 

Amy Christoffers design Vita de Vie would make an interesting knitting project. It is worked sideways in two halves from the sleeve cuff in towards the centre front/back. you then graft the live stitches using Kitchener stitch before seaming the side and sleeve seams. Knit on a loose gauge, the pattern calls for a sportweight yarn, we think this would be super knitted up in Kelbourne Woolens Andorra which would really play to this sweaters vintage feel.  

Perfin is very wearable, a double-breasted mesh cardigan, it is worked in individual pieces and then seamed which gives this design by Alice Caetano structure. Our yarn of choice would be Nurturing Fibres Supertwist DK. This yarn will really play to the strengths of this design.

Tête-Bêche by Verena Cohrs

There are two hat designs in this issue but our favourite is Tête-Bêche by Verena Cohrs. Knit in the round, this hat has an easy colourwork project as you only need two colours. The brim is worked from a provisional cast on and doubled over. Rosy Green Cheeky Merino Joy would be the ideal yarn for this design.
