    Fancy Being a Sample Knitter?

This year Tangled Yarn is looking to work with Sample Knitters and Crocheters to produce samples that we can use to showcase the beautiful yarns we offer. As a one-woman business, I can't knit everything myself as much as I would love to. I need a pool of knitters [crocheters] I can call upon to produce both garments, accessories and colour swatches to show alternative colourways for designs from time to time.

I am looking for experienced knitters who can work to a deadline. So that I'm able to match the project with the right person, I ask that you complete the application form for prospective sample knitters [crocheter]. Your details will be kept on record, and should a project come up that matches your skills and abilities; I will be in touch.

Our ideal Sample Knitter or Crocheter is:

    • Skilled and experienced with most knitted garment construction methods, i.e. seaming and knitting in the round.
    • Be happy to master new techniques independently.
    • Work from both written instructions and follow charts.
    • Know how to finish a project professionally with seaming, sewing in ends and blocking.
    • Work to a deadline.
    • Open to regular communication and updates through email and Zoom calls.

Our Sample Knitting [Crocheter] compensation package includes:

    • We pay per metre at a rate of 12p per metre. So if a sweater took 805m of yarn, the fee would be £96.60 plus the meterage used to swatch.
    • Our sample knitters would receive a 10% on their next order with Tangled Yarn following the completion and approval of a sample.
    • Tangled Yarn would pre-pay return postage for the sample.

At this time, we ask you only apply if you are in the UK.

Once we have matched a project with the right maker, we will be in touch with details on the sample. This would include letting you know the skills needed for making the sample so that you feel confident in taking on the work. We will agree on the timeframe for the project, and I will also let you know the estimated fee based on the patterns meterage.

Once a sample has been finished, we ask you to return it with any leftover yarn and the ball bands. We will cover the cost of the return postage. Once we receive the sample, Tangled Yarn will pay the knitter directly. You can choose between a bank transfer, PayPal, or you can have a Tangled Yarn gift card for the value of the work.

From time to time, you may be asked to knit a sample for a new publication, so you will be asked not to share it on social until the magazine goes on sale. We welcome you sharing on Instagram and in your Ravelry projects once the magazine is released.

This new venture is an exciting time for us, and we can't wait to start sharing all those beautiful samples. If you feel this is a good fit for you, please complete the application form for prospective sample knitters [crocheters], giving as much information as possible.
