  • Wovember - A Celebration of 100% Wool

    November 12, 2015 2 min read 0 Comments

If you knit or crochet and frequent Twitter and Instagram it won’t have passed you by that this month is Wovember. This is a month long celebration of wool which was started by woolly comrades Felicity Ford, Louise Scollay, Tom van Deijnen and Kate Davies in 2011. These four individuals each have a passion for wool and wanted to show their collective and individual appreciation for this unique fibre. At the same time they started a campaign for clearer labelling and descriptions of garments on our high street. You can find out more about Wovember and exactly what they’re up to by visiting their website

As a knitter I’m not happy to settle for acrylic, the thought of knitting with it curls my toes! Knitting with wool is definitely more my thing. I love the fact that different breeds of sheep produce very difference fleeces and that these fleeces can be spun into a yarn that gives me hours of pleasure to knit with and then years of delight to wear.

One of my favourites is Bluefaced Leicester also known as BFL. It is an incredibly versatile wool, not in the least bit scratchy yet durable enough to withstand time and lots of wear. It’s ideal for knitting garments but equally good when mixed with nylon for socks too.

West Yorkshire Spinners Bluefaced Leicester DK; 12 colours (100% Wool, 112m / 50g)

I recently added West Yorkshire Spinners Bluefaced Leicester DK to the Tangled Yarn shelves and I’ve been searching for just the right pattern to give this British yarn a test drive. I’ve chosen Tin Can Knits Lush and once I’ve completed my current wips I’ll be casting on!

So I encourage you to put aside your acrylic yarn and show you appreciation for all thing woolly by casting on something this month in 100% wool!

    Happy knitting
